I’m excited to head to my father Michael Fox’s home state of Minnesota to show our film KILLING GAMES ~ Wildlife In The Crosshairs as part of Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour presented by Wolves of Douglas County Wisconsin Films.

You may be shocked to hear that wildlife killing contests targeting coyotes, foxes, bobcats, and other species take place throughout the Midwest, including in Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin. During these barbaric events, participants compete to kill the greatest number, the largest, or even the youngest of the target species for entertainment and prizes.

This year, the Dane County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors passed a resolution condemning wildlife killing contests in the state (local governments in Arizona and New Mexico have done the same). Opposition to these events is growing rapidly—New Mexico and Vermont abolished coyote killing contests in 2019 and 2018, respectively; the California Fish and Game Commission banned the awarding of prizes for killing furbearing and nongame animals in 2014; and momentum is building nationwide to bring an end to this brutal practice. Arizona—among other states—is currently considering a ban (see the recent media interviews regarding the proposed rule with our own Matt Francis here and here).

As an added treat, the winners of the Wisconsin & Minnesota Wildlife Photography Contest will be announced at the event! In addition to other awards, winners in each category will receive Project Coyote embroidered ball caps signed by Dewey Bunnell, founding member of the band America and a Project Coyote supporter.

I’m grateful to Rachel Tilseth, Wolves of Douglas County Wisconsin Films, and Wild & Scenic On Tour for hosting and inviting me to speak at this Minnesota premiere of KILLING GAMES ~ Wildlife In The Crosshairs. And I look forward to joining our colleagues from the National Coalition to End Wildlife Killing Contests for a post-panel discussion.
