The war on wolves rages on, with July 1 marking the official implementation of SB1211, Idaho’s wolf slaughter bill. Project Coyote and allies have garnered much attention to the plight of wolves with articles such as this one in The Independent and this Gizmodo piece.
Additionally, Science Advisors Dr. Adrian Treves and Dr. Francisco J. Santiago-Ávila recently published in the journal PeerJ an analysis of the death toll in Wisconsin following removal of federal protections and the recent wolf massacre, with coverage in The Guardian and Public News Service. Their study reveals that, in addition to the 218 reported wolf kills, approximately another 100 wolves died, the majority of which were likely illegally killed by humans. This staggering death toll represents at least 27% or more of the state’s entire population of wolves killed since April 2020.
Despite growing public awareness, the federal government has yet to intervene on behalf of wolves and their ecosystems. Wolves still need your help ~ please take these two quick actions today.
