During hunting season in Massachusetts, it is legal to massacre our coyotes in sponsored wildlife killing contests. Most recently a contest was held at the Powderhorn Gun Shop in Hyannis where approximately 60 coyotes were killed. Their bloodied bodies were weighed and stacked like cords of wood, and prizes were awarded to the “hunters” who killed the largest or the most animals. Many of the participants came from other states along with their children to participate for prizes.

Fueled by anti-predator bias, these legally sanctioned contestsare cruel and foster ignorance about the critical role apex predators play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

In KILLING GAMES ~ Wildlife In The Crosshairs, actor and conservationist Peter Coyote — with environmentalists, ranchers, public officials and Native Americans — brings these shadowy contests to light and speaks out against this hidden war on wildlife. Project Coyote’s KILLING GAMES inspires viewers to call on their state and local legislators to bring an end to these brutal contests where wild animals become living targets.

The screening will be followed by a question and answer discussion with Director and Producer Camilla H. Fox who is the founder and executive director of Project Coyote, a national non-profit organization based in northern California. Cape Cod biologist and author Dr. Jonathan Way (Suburban Howls:Tracking the Eastern Coyote in Urban Massachusetts) will also be on hand to speak about what action is being taken locally to protect our wild carnivores.
