Julia Trautmann

PROJECT COYOTE INTERN

Julia Trautmann is an intern at Project Coyote and is originally from West Bloomfield, Michigan. She is a recent graduate from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Ecology, Evolution, & Biodiversity, and a B.S. in Environmental Studies. In her studies, Julia specialized in wildlife biology and conservation and developed an overarching interest in conservation in human-dominated landscapes. Julia has contributed to local conservation in the Ann Arbor area as an aquatic field intern at the Huron River Watershed Council and as a wildlife rehabilitation intern at the Bird Center of Michigan. Julia also assisted with a research project examining problem framing of the illicit wildlife trade of turtle species in the United States. She is excited to combine her interests in research and advocacy to continue supporting wildlife conservation at Project Coyote. In her role as an intern, Julia contributes to research on landscape-level conservation efforts and the promotion of human-wildlife coexistence.

Growing up spending lots of time at her family’s cabin in northern Michigan, Julia developed a love of wildlife and a curiosity about the natural world from an early age. From catching frogs, fishing, mushroom hunting, hiking and foraging, Julia learned that she is at her happiest when she is outside interacting with wildlife. This early love of the outdoors inspired Julia to devote her life to learning about and caring for nature. Outside of work, Julia loves to stay active, and some of her favorite hobbies are reading, exploring the outdoors, listening to music, birding, traveling and mushroom hunting.
