DONATING STOCK TO PROJECT COYOTE
One of the most beneficial types of gift opportunities for both you and Project Coyote is appreciated stock. You can claim the full value of the stock (as of the date that it leaves your hands) and avoid what can be very significant capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the shares over their original aquisition value.
While our fiscal sponsor (Earth Island Institute) can receive physical shares of stock, the process involves more than a simple transfer of shares. INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRANSFERRING STOCK:
Project Coyote is a fiscally sponsored project of Earth Island Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Gifts of stock are processed as gifts to Earth Island Institute unless otherwise designated for a specific project (stock transfers occur without identification).
To ensure your gift of stock is designated to Project Coyote, please send the following information to: Christopher Lile, Operations & Communications Director (clile@projectcoyote.org).

- Anticipated date of transfer
To transfer stock, please use the following information:

Your tax deduction information:
Your gift of stock is tax deductible within the limits of the IRS Code. Project Coyote will send an acknowledgement letter once the stock has been received into Earth Island’s account (the funds will then be transferred to Project Coyote as long as we know to expect this gift – stock transfers occur without identification). However, you will need to confirm the value of the shares at the time of transfer with your broker. The value of the stock donated will be an average of the high and low prices on the date of receipt of the donation. Acknowledgement of your stock donation will show a donation to Earth Island Institute but the funds from this gift will be allocated to Project Coyote.
