First, we want to share the great news that on April 2, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed SB 76 into law, banning coyote killing contests statewide! This momentous law could not have been passed without the help and voices of our coalition partners and individual advocates like you. We are so grateful for the support you provided to this successful effort, which resulted in New Mexico becoming the third state to protect coyotes from this barbaric practice.
Second, Project Coyote and our coalition partners are hosting screenings over the next few months in several states of our award-winning documentary KILLING GAMES ~ Wildlife In The Crosshairs, which exposes the shadowy world of wildlife killing contests. If there’s an event near you, we encourage you and your friends, family and coworkers to attend to learn more about the issue, help spread the word about these cruel contests, and meet like-minded individuals. Last but not least, Project Coyote and Wolves of Douglas County Wisconsin present the Wisconsin & Minnesota Wildlife Photography Contest! This family-friendly competition encourages people to shoot coyotes and other wild carnivores with a camera instead of a gun. World-renowned wildlife photographer Jim Brandenburg will choose the winners. Prizes include a print from Brandenburg and winners will be announced at the screening of KILLING GAMES at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival on July 24th. Entry is free and open to Minnesota and Wisconsin residents. The deadline to enter is June 1st – more information about the contest here. (If you didn’t get a chance to see the results of the New Mexico Coyote Photography Contest developed by Project Coyote Creative Associate Joe Newman, go here.)
Please join us at these exciting events and help us raise public awareness and inspire grassroots momentum to ban this unconscionable bloodsport once and for all!
