As reported in many news outlets, H.636, the Vermont bill to ban coyote killing contests, passed the Vermont House on February 22 by an overwhelming majority of 95-44—the official version is available here (see § 4716 at p. 28 of the .pdf). Enormous thanks go to Rep. David L. Deen, who sponsored the bill, and to all of you who responded to our Action Alert and contacted your local legislator(s) to speak in support of this legislation. The Bill now moves on to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy, and your help is needed again to move this bill forward and pass it into law! You can email the Committee at jnewman@leg.state.vt.us.

If you live in one of the districts represented by the following Senators who sit on the Committee, your voice is especially important—please contact your Senator and let him know you are a constituent and that you support passage of the bill out of their Committee, with NO CHANGES TO WEAKEN THE BAN!

When you call or email the Committee members/Senator, you can say, “I am contacting you regarding H.636, and specifically the ban on coyote killing contests. I am asking you to please support H.636 AS WRITTEN,with no amendments to weaken the bill.”

Opponents of the bill are speaking out against the legislation, so it’s more crucial than ever to ensure that your Senators hear from you, every step along the way, that this barbaric practice has no place in Vermont.

Thank you for making the call to protect Vermont’s coyotes from cruel killing contests!
